Q.  What sort of things can I do to conserve my energy while I’m working in the garden? I find myself becoming tired very easily.

A.  Try sitting while gardening to decrease stress on your back, knees, and hips. Take rest breaks every 15 minutes and stop working before you become overtired. Be sure to vary your tasks to avoid overstressing one single part of the body and change your position frequently to avoid becoming stiff.

Tightly gripping or pinching a tool for a long time can lead to swelling in your hands and arms, and prolonged hunching or kneeling can cause back strain and knee pain. To avoid these things, try moving around the garden and doing different tasks every few minutes instead of focusing on one area.
