Q. How can I avoid hurting my back while lifting mulch for my garden this spring?
A. Bags of mulch, soil, and fertilizer are heavy. To reduce the weight, try dividing the bags into multiple smaller loads and use a two-wheeled garden cart to move the materials, which are much more stable than wheelbarrows. Be sure to use your leg muscles (and not your back) when lifting the bag. Also, ask for help or consider hiring someone to help with bigger tasks.
